THE PROCESSION OF VERGES AND IT'S DEATH DANCE
From its origins to the present day, the procession has been the most important contribution of Verges to Catalan culture and one of the most important examples of traditional Catalan theater. To maintain this tradition, every Holy Thursday the inhabitants of Verges become actors on the stage of the procession, in front of the eyes of thousands of visitors who fill the town on the occasion of mystery.
- At 5 pm Manages parade cross the village from the town hall to collect images that at night will be part of the procession.
- At 10 pm representation of the Mystery of the Passion in the square . To get there you must have purchased a ticket through Kooba or at the ticket office located in the Plaza September 11, during the Holy Thursday.
- At 12 pm procession through the streets , once the conviction of beeing crucified is known, Jesus with the cross begins its journey to the crucifixion. The procession begins and ends at the church square and takes place on the streets of the town, in certain places, some performances take place: healing the blind, the 1st fall with Veronica, the three Maries , the 2nd and 3rd falls. It is remarkable the passage of the Procession at "Cargols" Street for the uniqueness of its setting and the double end of the procession: the Crucifixion in the church square, and the reverence with the Dance of the Death in front of the Sacrament.
The Dance of the death. During the Holy Thursday it is a scene with a lot of symbolism and ancient features unique, integrated into the Procession of Verges. It has ten characters. The main body of the group is composed by the Dalla, "capdanser" group with a scythe with the inscription "Parco Nemiña"; Flag is the carrier of a black flag with the inscription "the time is short." The saucers, two children skeletons carrying a plate with ash, another child wearing a skeleton and antique clock without hands. They Dance to the sound of a drum in the sourrundings of four people with torches illuminating the scene and contributing to a gloomy atmosphere that makes sense.
